It has been pointed out in previous studies with carbonyl-labeled urethan that on injection this compound begins to break down almost imme diately, with about 90 per cent of the carbonyl carbon appearing in the expired carbon dioxide within the first 24 hours. Of the remainder of the carbonyl carbon, 5—10per cent was found in the urine and about 1 per cent was retained in a fixed form widely distributed in organs, tissues, and body fluids at 24 hours after injection (2).
